What's all the BUZZ!

Quite often we hear from our former clients who love to share their great experience of using G. Patterson Photographic Studio & Gallery for their family, children, senior or wedding photography services. We especially love it when "the BUZZ" reaches someone that hasn't used us before. 

WELL...another kind of BUZZ has been occurring around here for the past two years! BEES Buzzing!!!

A look behind the camera-Greg Patterson Photographer {Nacogdoches Photography}

By request, here is another look at behind the camera. I love to photograph seniors and especially enjoy our URBAN session where we photograph in historic downtown Nacogdoches. There is so much texture, urbanscapes and history, its a great place to capture unique images. 

Quite often I'm asked, "what camera do you shoot with?" or "what lens are you using?" I can honestly tell you its taken years of training and experience to get the look that we get in our portraits. I believe that's why we regularly have seniors travel several hours. It's not just a camera or lens, its the photographer that makes everything come together. PLUS...beyond the awesome photography, we are nice people too with some amazing senior products and packages.

Greg Patterson - Behind the Camera {Photographer Greg Patterson of Patterson Studio}

I thought I would share a little behind the camera look at me (Greg Patterson) working and what the final image looks like. 

As a photography professor at SFA, I have the privilege of teaching photography to over 100 students each semester. One aspect of photography that I teach is composition. There are some tips to get started, but honestly its something that is practiced and learned over many years. As a professional photographer with over 20 years of experience, I have dedicated myself to this ART as well as our studio to providing amazing quality, service and products. Today's digital cameras are good, but when you hire a professional, you should get professional results!

When considering portraits for those important times in your life (weddings, kids growing up, graduation senior portraits, family, etc.) don't make the mistake of thinking that a "good camera" will give you quality results. Find a professional that has experience and the promise of a guarantee.

Moblogging!

OK...I know I'm pretty much a techo geek. Always have been. Just seems to come natural for some reason. So I have been hearing about Moblogging. Basically...it's bogging on a mobile phone...such as the phone l'm currently using to write this message.

Quality is not great, but here we are enjoying Tokyo House in Lufkin.

9/4/07....PS..Since this post comes up when doing a Google search for Tokyo House Lufkin, I wanted to say a few words about the restaurant. WE LOVE IT! We since wend back for another visit and the service, good and show were all excellent and consistent. Thanks Tokyo House for providing East Texas with such great service!

July 4th fun!

Nacogdoches puts on a great show each July 4th and last night was no exception. We had a great time with many friends and family coming out to enjoy the fun. It was great when the Ice Cream "man" passed by and the kids screamed, causing them to turn around. As you can see, the kids throughly enjoyed their treats.

Once the fireworks started, I moved to a few different spots capturing the event. If you ever want to photograph fireworks, here are a few tips:
1. Use a tripod and long shutter speeds, somewhere around 8 seconds. I captured these on Manual mode with an aperture of 5.6.
2. Watch and listen for several bursts, then click the shutter. Takes some luck to capture the perfect timing.
3. Set your color balance to incandescent or around 2800K.

Lunar Eclipse

At sunset the earth and the sun were aligned just right to create a lunar eclipse. The last time this occurred was about 2 1/2 years ago. Here is one of the photos I captured. For those camera buffs, this was shot on a Nikon D200, 180mm lens. Shutter 1/500, aperture 4. This is cropped in quite a bit.
